Who is the Shop Teacher?

If you are a teacher who instructs in the areas of: technology education, industrial technology education, the practical arts, or vocational tech, then "theShopTeacher.com" is a web site you’ll appreciate.  If you teach “ shop” classes between grades 6 to 12 in the public educational system,

trade school, or even at the college or university level, the unique challenges of being a hands on, materials, tools and processes teacher are many.  The "theShopTeacher.com" is a FREE service that will prove to be your efficient, one stop information, project and service center.

We also welcome and appreciate input from the experience and knowledge that trades people can provide.  Your contributions keep us informed of the latest technologies and advances and we thank you.

Many retired shop teachers are sending me queries about the site and YES your experience and wisdom is always welcome here. Feel free to join.

Why re-invent the wheel?

Shop teachers strive to create exciting and practical learning in relative isolation.  Why not use the advice, the ideas and the projects that are tried and tested by other shop teachers, in the classroom and with real students.  We have the ability to help one another because we do the same thing.  The only difference is the distance between us.  With the internet, mileage has been reduced to zero.  "theShopTeacher.com" has begun and continues to compile these "real" teacher ideas and build a web site that will supply, among other things, quality projects, lesson plans and teaching strategies.  This is not academia. This is real life, with real budgets, real students, and real shop teacher experiences.

Why I started "theShopTeacher.com"

My name is David De Pieri.  I worked in the trades as a journeyman machinist and CNC programmer for ten years.  I then became a high school shop teacher, and for the last twelve years I've taught technology 8, 9 and 10, automotive, drafting, woodwork, power mechanics, metalwork, as well as, career preparation Machine shop and Engineering/Architecture as a drafting specialty.  Realizing the many hours spent preparing a course only to have an appointment change a year later bothered me.  We work hard at what we do!  I knew there had to be a better way for shop teachers to be able to learn from one another on a more global scale.  The Internet has provided us with that avenue.  I'm proud to introduce a system that will simplify the lives of working shop teachers in the days where budgets and time are being continually restricted.
